Rumors always swirl around the annual release of Call Of Duty, sometimes accurate, often not. The latest suggests a battle royale mode will be coming to this year’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, just not at release.
Modern Warfare releases on October 25th, but the rumored battle royale mode would not come out until sometime in early 2020. It would also be a separate, free-to-play download, though it would still be a part of the Modern Warfare universe.
LongSensation previously leaked the title of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Twitter, something quickly confirmed by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier.
Whether that lends credibility to this rumor remains to be seen, but Activision is certainly interested in pursuing the popular and lucrative battle royale mode. Black Ops 4 has its attached “Blackout” mode which probably should have been a separate free-to-play game to better compete with free titles like Apex Legends and Fortnite.
The company is also releasing free-to-play Call Of Duty: Mobile which has its own battle royale mode as well as traditional multiplayer. I would not be surprised in the least to see a free-to-play Modern Warfare battle royale mode release in the spring.
Then again, take this rumor—like all the rest—with a pinch of salt.
