After a long wait, Mahindra has finally brought in the all-new XUV300 in India. The new sub-four metre offering from Mahindra’s stable is striking to look at and also offers many first-in-segment features. Here is a detailed look at the top highlights of the all-new XUV300:
Appearance wise, the XUV300 has busy fascia and a very European-esque rear. The front has an XUV500-like chrome-pin grille and squared-off headlamps, vertical LED DRLs, black surround on the fog lamps and ample body cladding all around. The floating D-pillar which sits on imposing wheel arches lends it a masculine stance. Contrary to the edgy face, the rear has a curved-off design. The bulbous LED taillights are all new and the baby SUV sits on 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.
The XUV300 sits on a modified platform of the Ssangyong Tivoli. But Mahindra has sheared off the overhangs to keep it under the four-metre mark, however, the wheelbase of 2600mm has been retained from the Tivoli. And therefore, the XUV300 has the longest wheelbase in this class. It measures 3995x1821x1627mm while the boot measures 590/1050/810mm.
Feature-loaded interior –
Mahindra has compensated the XUV300’s delayed arrival in the segment with a really long feature list. The cabin of the Baby XUV is inspired directly from the Tivoli with a hint of Mahindra’s elements. The upright centre console gets a seven-inch integrated touchscreen infotainment system. The dual-tone cabin gets high-gloss black and aluminium silver elements all around.
The long feature list of the XUV300 includes leather upholstery, dual zone climate control, smartphone integration, cruise control, reverse camera with guidelines, six-way adjustable driver’s seat, auto headlamps, electric and heated mirrors, mood lighting, projector headlamps, auto dimming IRVM, TPMS, and sunroof. The top-spec W8 (O) trim comes with seven airbags.
There is a choice of two powertrains with the Mahindra XUV300 – a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel. The petrol engine produces 110bhp at 5000rpm and 200Nm at 2000-3500rpm while the turbodiesel is good for 115bhp at 3750rpm and 300Nm between 1500-2500rpm. The XUV has the most powerful engine on offer in the segment. Both engines get a six-speed manual as standard while the automatic will arrive at a later date.
Competition and Price:
The XUV300 goes up against the well-established contenders in the highly popular sub-four metre segment in the country. It rivals the likes of Honda WR-V, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, and the segment-leader Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
